Happy 1st birthday, Feralis! -throws confetti- How should we celebrate? New skin?

3.15.09; ; Hey Everyone...(more) (click here for past updates)

Welcome to Feralis, a literate to advanced roleplay site that focuses on the lives of warrior cats in the wild (with the occasional run-in with a twoleg), and we've been around since January 2008. This site forms its basis on the original four clans as described in the book series by Erin Hunter. We welcome all newcomers with open arms and will do our best to make you feel at home in whatever way we can. Please, don't hesitate to ask! Sincerely,

The arrival of leaf-bare appears to be late this year, with high temperatures rocketing through the clan territories. Riverclan are faring the best, with the cool river close to the camp, though the river has lowered considerably. Thunderclan have access to fresh water, but it is Windclan and Shadowclan who take the beating. Windclan's moors provides no cover from the relentless sun, and Shadowclan territory has only a few places of water supply in the territory. Prey is plentiful though, as small animals savour the last rays of sun before leaf-bare. Trees still have their thick green foliage, though signs of colour change are finally beginning to show.

If you want to get anywhere productive on Feralis, you've gotta read these puppies, preferably BEFORE you join. Before you ask the staff any questions, it's best to consult the high and might rulebook, stored safely away in this board. If you see something that should be there, but isn't, or have a suggestion on editing or improving a rule, feel free to let the admin, ! s t r i p e s ?, know of your concern.

[ ]HelloGoodbye
If you're new, feel free to post here and get to know everyone! Tell us a bit about yourself, what site you came from, your pets, whatever nonsense you'd like to share. You also are required to post on this board if you're taking a break, like getting grounded, vacation, or just flat-out need a roleplaying break. Please make a note here if you must leave the site permanently, though we wish you wouldn't!

[ ]staff lounge
As the title suggests, this board is for staff only to create our plans to steal all of the aliens, put them under our command and take over the wor-- Er, we talk about updates to the site. Yes, that's it. Now move along, there's nothing to see here.

[ ]member lounge
You can post games, what you did yesterday, or what 'he said she said he said' on this board. Basically, you can talk about anything from poodles to ranting. Have fun!

[ ]artistic confetti
Art doesn't mean just drawings. It also means writing! Feel free to post any drawings or writings you want here. Remember, they may be critiqued unless you post a note that it is not wanted. You're free to post your graphics "studios", as long as you include your examples and suchlike. If you need advice on what to include, just ask =3. I like giving advice! There is also a specific board here to request graphics or writing.

[ ]activity checks
I'm quite strict with the activity checks, believe it or not. And for those of you who have been here a while, you know I don't waste time deleting those who don't reply to the activity checks. It's true, I'm an activity nerd. Anyway, you are required to reply to these or risk your account being deleted and your cats being put up for adoption.

[ ]oh, dead!
Tongue tied and oh so squeamish... er, um, yes. I'm not singing -shiftyeyes- Anyway, this is the board in which all posts that haven't been replied to in at least two weeks, without a valid reasoning (such as one member of the thread is on temporary leave), it will be placed here. Don't fret; if you want it back, just pm ! s t r i p e s ? and she will retrieve it for you. Make sure to tell me which board to put it in!

[ ]you made us oh so famous
Come here to create your cats. You will find the form for creation, plus tips and tricks on getting your form accepted the first time. Because we love you. You will also need to provide a roleplay sample to show your current ability when you make your first character. This is also where you get your cool colored name! Get original with your cats; no, there isn't a perfectly gorgeous cat who is modest. No. Don't do it. It's boring and, hey, we like drama!

[ ]Accepted Characters (5 sub-boards)
This is where all of the accepted character forms go... so don't start freaking out if your form is moved! :) The staff are also here to assist you in making your forms even better should you get stuck, and they'll provide suggestions for you if you are having difficulties with prasing and such.

[ ]Logs
Logs for your characters may be posted here. There is no set template, as it is up to you to select how much or how little to reveal about your character to the other members. In general, a log is a general summary of your character. Please make all of your character's logs in the same thread.

[ ]Offspring
If you're she-cat is pregnant or will become pregnant, come here to see the outcome of the kits (how many, their color, personality, and so forth).

[ ]Adoption Center (1 sub-board)
If there's a character that is in need of a good roleplayer to resume its roleplaying life, then it'll be located here. Characters are usually given up for the plain reason that the roleplayer is flooded with characters, or doesn't desire to play the char anymore.

Think you have a good idea for the roleplay or a mini-plot, and would like to put it to use? Come here to share your ideas with others.

[ ]ThunderClan Camp (8 sub-boards)
Soft, distant meowing can be heard just outside the confines of camp, the clearing surrounded by a wall of bracken. Trees hover in and around the camp, as well, shading mostly the corners of the camp. A tunnel constructed of gorse creates the entrance to the camp, and just outside you can hear paws hastily padding across the ground. A cat approaches you quickly as you're about to set paw into the entrance, stopping you in your tracks. The cat sniffs you over to make sure you're a cat of the Clan, and after being satisfied, he steps aside wordlessly and stares at you with narrowed eyes as you enter.
00
[ ]Sandy Hollow
This hollow has sandy, light, and thin soil, with lots of trees surrounding it, forming a sort of protective barrier. Traditionally, the Sandy Hollow is used as a sort of training facility for mentors and their apprentices.
00
[ ]Tallpines
A self-explanatory name, Tallpines is laden with towering evergreens, stretching their needles up to the sky. There isn't much undergrowth, since the wide branches of the pines keep out most of the light, leaving only small mosses to flourish. Green and tan pine needles blanket the forest floor, but they're part of the reason that the soil is so dark and rich. It's pleasantly cool in the summer, but bitter cold in the winter, as it doesn't provide much protection from the wind. There's an occasional mouse or a squirrel scurrying up a towering tree trunk. Sometimes a bird or fledgeling may also drop to the ground from the massive height.
00
[ ]Snakerocks
These tall, flat rocks with many crevices and crannies are perfect for sunning oneself on their sun-drenched plateaus; that is, if you have one eye watching out for those pesky adders. You can't help feeling as if you were being watched with snakes all around, their blood-red eyes staring at you coldly. You know they couldn't have you for their meal, and if you go to Snakerocks with a friend, one of you can sun on the warm rocks while the other watches for snakes and maybe catches one for the fresh-kill pile.
00
[ ]Sunningrocks
Though it seems that these rocks are the same as the snakerocks, you would be mistaken; the Sunningrocks are much taller and larger, and the only thing that sits there are birds and usually cats. It is surrounded by tall grasses and meadowland that's perfect for hunting mice, birds, and rabbits. If you climb to the very top of the Sunningrocks, you can get a great view for miles.
00
[ ]ThunderClan Border
The dividing line between RiverClan and other outside territories. It bears a pungent odor of ThunderClan territory, of course, and is patrolled daily by, what else, Border Patrols.
00
[image]
[ ]RiverClan Camp (8 sub-boards)
RiverClan camp contains the medicine cat den, the leader's den, the warriors, elders and apprentices' den. It also has the nursery, with a barrier of queens and brambles to stop attackers from reaching kits. The River Rock is the centre piece of the camp, where cats gather to hear announcements and ceremonies.
00
[ ]Willow Grove
Nested not far from the river, a towering, ancient group of willows sway pleasantly in the breeze. Their long, entwining branches are proof of their age, and some are even long enough to dip their branches into the water of the river. There is much moss and vegetation, and mice, birds, chipmunks, and squirrels make their homes here. The willows' elegantly long branches may make climbing slightly tricky, however; you could always stick to ground hunting, but on other terms, climbing up one of these trees gives you a lovely sunset and dawn view.
00
[ ]The Inlands
The inlands are the only part of RiverClan that is actually secluded from the River. It is filled with tall grasses and meadowland, but there are a lot of trees that dot the area as well. Most of it, though, is just plains with grasses, a good spot for hunting mice and voles and such, but you'll have to watch out for foxes.
00
[ ]The River Islet & Steppingstones
The River Islet is... well, exactly what the name implies; a small island placed directly in the middle of the river, surrounded heavily by foilage from the drooping willows from Willow Grove and towering cattails. It's a good place to try and cross the river if you don't feel like swimming or even an excellent place to hide... for whatever reason. Another alternative is the Steppingstones, a collection of boulders that rise just above the water; enough to cross in low water levels.
00
[ ]The Riverbed
What else would be here other than RiverClan's namesake; the river of course! The wide, fast-flowing river is filled with fish and freezes over thick in the Leaf-Bare moons, providing an easier passage across than in the NewLeaf thaw.
00
[ ]RiverClan Border
Riverclan’s borders are well protected by its namesake – the river. To its left is the gorge, which prevents any unwanted Windclan cats from appearing, and it is backed onto some twoleg nests. The only real threat is from Thunderclan, as there is just the simple matter of bounding over the stepping stones to reach Riverclan territory. Never fear though, for the warriors patrol both boundaries daily.
00
[image]
[ ]WindClan Camp (8 sub-boards)
The highrock is where important ceremonies and announcements are commenced, usually by the Clan leader. Cats swarm around the large boulder to listen to the Clan leader's words of nobility.
00
[ ]Horseplace
The thundering of hooves is enough to drive most cats away from this place. There is many a barn owl baby fallen from their nest here, and plentiful mice; that is, if you get close enough rather than get kicked in the face by a massive equine hoof.
00
[ ]Abandoned Farmhouse & Cornfields
In its glory days, it was a bright red barn that housed who knows what. It supposedly was also the home of Barley, a rogue cat who had relations with Fireheart, the legendary ThunderClan cat. This land, though, is Claimed by WindClan. The dilapitated farmhouse has many mice and birds that live inside, and cobwebs galore. A few weeds poke up around the inside the concrete floor, and light washes the floor through the windows. The cornfield is also surrounding it, providing plenty of food for deer to graze. There are a few tasty garter snakes that lurk around, and many, many mice, voles, and rabbits that lurk inside the cornfield. The gaps between the rows are narrow, and only large enough to allow a lithe WindClan cat to race through.
00
[ ]Lake Shore
WindClan is located on the eastern shore of the Lake, which is large and supplies more than enough water for the Clan and a number of other prey animals that live within the confines WindClan territory. Careful not to get your kits and apprentices too close, though; WindClan cats know virtually nothing of swimming, and have known the dry moorland all of their life.
00
[ ]Moorland
This moor, by definition, is a tract of open, peaty, wasteland, often overgrown with heath and heather plants, common in high latitudes and altitudes where drainage is poor. This means that if WindClan recieves heavy amounts of rain, it is likely to flood out. Many swift rabbits take refuge in the abandoned badger sets here, and the Clan cats must be quick and agile as their cousin the cheetah to catch enough fresh kill for the Clan. Squirrels and other smaller animals roam here as well, such as field mice, among the sparce cover.
00
[ ]WindClan Border
Windclan is one of the lucky clans. Its barrier that prevents Shadowclan from attacking is the monstrous Thunderpath, which runs the whole way down. Though Riverclan is only separated by its river, the opposing clan cats dare not brave the fast flowing currents. The warriors frequently patrol the whole terrain, especially around the Thunderclan border, and are always on alert for intrusions.
00
[image]
[ ]ShadowClan Camp (8 sub-boards)
The highrock is where important ceremonies and announcements are commenced, usually by the Clan leader. Cats swarm around the large boulder to listen to the Clan leader's words of nobility-- or harshness.
00
[ ]Carrionplace
A main source of food for the ShadowClan cats. Occassionally, though, they can find food near the border, where there is a dramatic change in atmosphere divided by the Thunderpath. Make sure not to take any crowfood or rats back... but why would you do that?
00
[ ]Greenleaf Twoleg Campsite
In every season but Greenleaf, this place is abandoned and littered with creatures and food; although, also an occassional bear and coyote that would happily eat any cat. In Greenleaf, it's full of humans with their small controlled fires and their small collapsable dens. Watch out, they may try to capture you.
00
[ ]Boulder Forest
Just past the twoleg campsite is a small woodland, with paths that snake in and out and over hills and such. It's mostly on steep hills, and one must be careful not to lose their footing, or plummet to their death., for there is a huge crevice that divides the land from the Twoleg Campsite. The only way to get to it is by crossing a suspension bridge, constructed by the twolegs. The paths are made by twolegs, and are populated all of the year except for leaf-bare. However, it's a great place to find prey, such as chipmunks, squirrels, mice, and voles, even snakes on the large boulders that sometimes are found. It's quite a risky chance, but ShadowClan is usually willing to take it.
00
[ ]Great Sycamore
The great sycamore bests any other tree for miles, save for the tallpines, of which it matches in height evenly. The smooth white bark is patched with areas of darker brown, and its leaves are full and green in the Greenleaf moons, and the foliage of the lush tree turns various blaze oranges and flame reds as well as goldenrod yellow in leaf-fall. But even with bare branches, it's still a glorious sight to behold. It has a wonderful view of the landscape if you climb up its branches, as well.
00
[ ]ShadowClan Border
The border that separates the dark and deviant ShadowClan from the /mostly/ good-hearted and noble ThunderClan cats is simply a Thunderpath; more than several fox-lengths in width, but don't let its size fool you. In the opposite direction it stretches out for miles on end, so far the eye can't even see how far it really goes, and no sensible cat would dare to find out. It can be life or death crossing this black, smelly, hot path, but sometimes it's just necessary.
00
[image]
[ ]Fourtrees
Under a full moon, it is custom that every moon cycle the Clans come together to converse in a meeting under truce, inside the confines of Fourtrees. Only those who respect their Clanmates and the code are allowed to come, and are chosen under the trained eye of the Clan leader. Will you get to attend?
00
[ ]Treecut Place
Treecut Place
00
[ ]Twolegplace
Any sensible forest cat would cringe at the thought of trudging into such a foul place, filled with noisy twolegs and their inefficient ways. But sometimes, it is just how StarClan wishes it that some cats must enter.
00
[ ]Thunderpath
Why are you even here? The acrid, stinging stench of black asphalt and exhaust infiltrates your nostrils, but before you have time to blink, a monster whizzes past, its eyes gleaming bright with light and leaving a trail of water splashing onto you.
00
[ ]Highstones
HighStones is the Clan term for the mountains on the edge of WindClan territory. The HighStones are home to Mothermouth, which holds the Moonstone. The Moonstone is a giant quartz crystal near the HighStones, between ShadowClan and WindClan's territories, and diagonally facing ThunderClan's territory. It is a sacred stone deep below the earth that the Clan cats go to to share tongues with StarClan. The Moonstone is a sacred stone deep below the earth that the Clan cats go to to share tongues with StarClan. To get there, ThunderClan must go through WindClan's territory, and, although cats are supposed to be given free passage through to the Moonstone, this law is not always obeyed, as seen in Rising Storm. The Moonstone, at first sight, is seen as a hole in the ground. As cats enter the hole, they go through a long, cold tunnel that slopes down, with absolutely no light whatsoever, sometimes so thin they feel their whiskers brushing either side. After going through the tunnel, the cat is then dazzled by an extremely bright light, caused by moonlight reflected onto the gem from a hole in the ceiling. The Moonstone is several tail-lengths high. To communicate with StarClan, all the cat must do is press his or her nose to the rock, and they fall asleep almost immediately. They then dream about their warrior ancestors, and are able to talk with them. Apprentices must go here before their warrior ceremony. Leaders in the old forest went to the Moonstone to receive nine lives and have the second half of their name replaced with the prefix "–star", and this is also true for Medicine Cat apprentices; they go to Moonstone to earn their powers that allow them to speak to StarClan, but the ceremonies are secret.

No Role-Playing as of Now
Hello everyone. Due to the fact that for the past couple months, FS was basically dead, there is no role-playing right now. I'm working on cleaning everything up around here, and I don't want a clutter of new threads bothering me.

I'll try to revive the site as much as possible though. So, yay. FS may be back up really soon.
